My name is Kat and I specialise in capturing high quality, colourful and natural environmental and lifestyle portraits that truly showcase the personality and story of the people in them, be it a small business, individual, couple, family or children, in a stress free and fun environment.
I have had a passion for photography for as long as I can remember, starting off with pinching my older brothers point and shoot 35mm film camera to take photos of family, friends and our animals before getting my own little 35mm camera when I was about 12.
After getting my first 35mm SLR in 1999 at the age of 18 I combined my love of photography with my love of watching live music and spent many years capturing magical moments of my friends bands and my favourite artists performing anything from a pub gig to a large festival. This is still something I love to do in my spare time and have had my work published in various magazines and used on CD covers, websites and promotional materials.
In 2018 and 2019 I was awarded the ICMA Award for Most Popular Photographer, which recognises the support that photographers give to independent Australian country music artists.
1999 was when my real love of photography began, but it's only been in the last few years that I have started to take it beyond just being a hobby. I have always loved capturing special and candid moments in time and had been doing a mixture of professional promotional shoots for musicians, family lifestyle shoots and event photography when last year I decided to enrol in a Diploma of Photo Imaging to build both my photography and business skills.
It has been both an interesting and challenging ride over the last 13 months as I have explored different photography and editing genres and techniques and truly begun to develop my photography style and specialty areas of environmental and lifestyle portraiture. I love these genres of photography as they allow you to really tell a story with the photo and capture people’s emotions and personalities in a much more candid way than with formal portraiture.
Along with being passionate about photography, live music, family and friends I love to travel, so while I am currently based in the regional NSW town of Glen Innes, I am more than happy to consider photography projects Australia wide, so if you like my work get in touch to discuss your next photo shoot.
